Man rescued at the river

A Blytheville man reportedly was stranded on the Mississippi River Thursday afternoon and had to be rescued. Area crops trying to 'catch up'

A spring with heavy rains followed by extremely high temperatures in the summer makes a difference in crops grown in Mississippi County, said Dave Freeze, agriculture agent with the Mississippi County Cooperative Extension Service. The hot weather is "good as far as plant development," Freeze said. The consistent high temperatures over the last few days will help crops "catch up" because rains delayed planting. Board considering former officer's reinstatement request

The Blytheville City Council's Police and Fire Committee met with former police officer Terry Winkles Thursday to discuss his request to be reinstated on the Blytheville Police Department. The committee asked Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson to list his requirements for Winkles if the former officer is to be reinstated, while Councilwoman Carol White has agreed to visit Mid-South Health Systems to determine whether to recommend that be the place for Winkles to get anger management courses...
