Plans shaping up for two local festivals

This year's United Way of Greater Blytheville Championship Cook-Off will be Oct. 16-17, and will include two new events this year, a Mr. and Miss Chili Pepper Pageant and a 5K Walk/Run. Residency policy may see change

Thursday afternoon, the Blytheville City Council's Personnel Committee discussed changing the city's employee residency policy, which has come under scrutiny in recent months. The proposed changes include: requiring employees to live in the 72315 zip code; eliminating any waivers; giving new employees six months to meet the residency requirement; and barring police officers and firefighters from attending the academy until they fulfill the residency requirement...

Mississippi County woman faces drug fraud charges

A Mississippi County woman will be arraigned later this month in Poinsett County Circuit Court after her recent arrest on suspicion of 29 counts of fraud to obtain prescription drugs. Candace Harston, 34, of Keiser, was arrested Aug. 10 by Detective Raymond Oakes of the Lepanto Police Department, after an investigation into the incident...
