It’s fair time in Mississippi County

The Mississippi County Fair will open at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Park. It will be open through Saturday, Aug. 24. The fair has been an annual event for as long as I can remember. It started in 1931 making this year's fair number 88. Every night will be Arm Band Night. The gates will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. Redneck Racing will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit buildings will be open from 6-9 p.m. daily and 3-9 p.m. Saturday...

I was inspired last week

Last weekend, I had the opportunity to listen to local historymakers tell their stories. I covered a youth writing workshop hosted by members of the Celebrate! Maya Project, and I have to say that I was very inspired by all of the stories that I heard. It really surprised me that we’ve had so many people contributing in abundance to this community for so long...

Craighead County gives property to city of Monette

Property previously used by both the Craighead County Sheriff's Office and the Monette Police Department has landed in the possession of the city of Monette following action by the Craighead County Quorum Court on Monday. Board approves additional $300K incentives for ASP

Wednesday afternoon, the Mississippi County Planning and Development committee approved an additional $300,000 in incentives for Arkansas Steel Processing (ASP) to hire 15 more Mississippi County residents.
